Two major spectacles “Malaya” and “Globe” debuted in Mexico at Festival International de Teatro de Calle Zacatecas.
An overwhelming experience for many reasons!

The spectacles at Plaza de Armas, were visited by more than 80,000 people.
“Malaya” This spectacular performance offers a surreal journey through the dreams and nightmares of the human being, with which they captivated more than 17 thousand spectators at the Plaza de Armas’.

“Globe,” as the closing of the festival, brought together more than 25 thousand spectators, observing from the Plaza de Armas and through a screen installed at the other side of the Cathedral in Zacatecas.

What a lovely audience!
More participants than spectators.
From the beginning the response from the audience was intense.
To movements through the crowd worked perfectly and interacting with the performance appeared to be a natural thing for this wonderful audience.

MALAYA
‘A wonderful participation of Close-Art Theatre, from the Netherlands, in the Plaza de Armas of Zacatecas.
With the show “Malaya”, the 21st edition of the 2024 International Street Theatre Festival begins.
The spectacular performance “Malaya”, by the Close-Act Theatre company, from the Netherlands, who offered a surreal journey through the dreams and nightmares of the human being, with which they captivated more than 17 thousand spectators at the Plaza de Armas’.

‘The Dutch company, founded in 1991, was in charge of inaugurating the festival
“Malaya” stood out for its mix of futuristic elements, moving structures and situations that symbolize a cyclical destiny and an endless story’.

‘The show began with a shocking scene: a car driven by a metallic balloon, accompanied by futuristic silver creatures that explored their surroundings with binoculars, taking the audience into a world of intense fictions.’

‘The montage took attendees on a visual and narrative journey, where visions changed rapidly, intermingling madness, beauty and temptation. An oracle, who acted as a guide, moved between dreams and suggestions of reality, inviting viewers to reflect on the deepest feelings of human beings.’

‘The sound atmosphere that accompanied the work filled the Plaza de Armas with a range of emotions, from episodes of joy to moments of amazement. The boundaries between the scene and the audience were blurred to create an immersive and collective experience that kept attendees connected with each episode of the show.’

GLOBE
‘The magnificent show “Globe”, by the European company Close-Act Theatre, closed the 21st edition of the Festival in an extraordinary way, framed in the Year of Peace’.

‘The 21st edition of the festival culminated in a shocking way with the performance of Close-Act Theatre, which presented the show “Globe”.
This production, the second of two major performances for this edition of the Festival, was characterized by visually striking characters, lyrical elements and theatrical effects that erased the borders between actors and the heterogeneous audience that was immersed in a magical world’.

‘Zacatecas was transformed into a living stage during the closing of the Zacatecas International Street Theatre Festival 2024. This majestic event brought together more than 25 thousand spectators in a night that will remain engraved in everyone’s memory, with the impressive presentation of “Globe” by Close-Act Theatre, a company from the Netherlands recognized for its fusion of Theatre, Dazzling dance and visual effects’.

‘The closing, led by “Globe”, is a work that evokes the purity of childhood imagination, fighting against the impositions of an adult reality that seeks to suffocate the freedom to dream. This show, under the direction of Hesther Melief and Tonny Aerts, captivated thousands with its impressive display of metal structures, pyrotechnics and visually stunning characters. Zacatecans and visitors were absorbed in a magical atmosphere that blurred the line between the real and the fantastic’.
